Additional source of biologically active substances, zinc and selenium. Helps normalizing functional state and maintaining thyroid hormone balance.
White tormentil root extract 250 mg, selenium oxide (equivalent to Se++ – 55 mcg) zinc oxide (equivalent to Zn++ – 10 mg), excipients.
White tormentil (Potentilla alba L.) has expressed effectiveness in normalization of the structure and function of thyroid gland. Biologically active compound, albinin, contained in the underground part of the plant has thyrotropic and gonadotropic activity, affects production of thyrotropin (TSH) in the frontal lobe of the hypophysis, which by the feedback mechanism provides effect on the synthesis of thyroid hormones. The root of the white tormentil contains elemental iodine and anion of iodous acid, is a natural concentrate of trace elements and macronutrients (Mn, Cu, Zn, Se, Co, Fe, Si etc.), biologically active components, such as flavonoids, phenocarbonic acids and saponins, normalizing metabolic processes in the body and regulating hormone profile and are necessary for normal functioning of the thyroid gland.
Due to a bioflavonoid, quercetin, having expressed antioxidative and membrane-stimulating activities, it helps stabilizing membranes of thyrocytes, regulates thyroid cell permeability, protecting them from damaging effect of autoantibodies and free radicals, restores its receptor and hormone excretory functions. The main biologically active substances in white tormentil have expressed antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, cytostatic, immunostimulating effects and improve microcirculation in tissues.
Selenium is a trace element, which is contained in enzymes, playing an important part in thyroid gland, reproductive and immune systems functioning. Selenium is contained in selenium-containing deiodinases, converting thyroid gland hormone, thyroxine (T4), in its active form, triiodothyronine (T3). Selenium participates in antioxidative protection of the body, activation of thyroid hormones, inhibits apoptosis processes, modulates immune system, has protective effect on cytoplasmatic membranes, prevents chromosomal material damage. Selenium deficiency is associated with the risk of development of thyroid autoimmune processes, such as autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) and toxic diffuse goiter (TDG). Selenium reduces the level of antibodies to thyreoperoxidase in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis effectively and improves the quality of life of patients with endocrine oculopathy. This trace element is contained in protein compounds – selenoproteins – providing for adequate thyroid gland functioning.
Zinc is contained in protein compounds with various molecular mechanisms of action on the thyroid gland, and it is also a component of the nuclear triiodthyronine receptor (contained in T3 receptor), which explains the demand for this trace element for implementation of biological effect of thyroid hormones. Zinc-containing enzyme, superoxyddysmutase, provides for antioxidative protection of the thyroid gland.
