Indole-3-carbinol (I3C)has a pronounced positive effect on dishormonal diseases of the mammary glands. I3C promotes selective inhibition of the growth of transformed cells and induction of apoptosis. The antiproliferative effect of I3C is realized by several mechanisms, the main of which are the normalization of metabolism and estrogen balance, reducing the formation of the pathological metabolite 16-hydroxyestrone, which has pronounced carcinogenic properties. I3C blocks both hormone-dependent and hormone-independent pathways of pathological cell proliferation – neutralizes the action of epidermal and insulin-like growth factors that stimulate cell proliferation in the mammary glands and uterus, and inhibits the effect of inflammatory cytokines.
