Black elderberry contains a glycoside – sambunigrin (isomer of an amigdonitril), which split on glucose, benzaldehyde and cyanhydric acid, as well as rutin, essential oil, organic acids (caffeic, malic, valeric, chlorogenic), tannins and a number of other biologically active compounds. All these active substances form a basis for chemical composition of black elderberry (sambucus). Elderberry has been used for musculoskeletal apparatus diseases due to its anti-inflammatory effect since the days of yore. Anti-inflammatory properties of the flowers of the plant are determined by integral effect of the fatty oil, relieving initial phase of inflammation process with rutin, which has anti-inflammatory effect in exudation phase, as well as reduces effects of body sensitization and vascular walls permeability.
